BabySense 7 Breathing Monitor

So this is the product I tried first…

It’s cheaper at £89, compared to the Owlet Sock which will cost you £269.

I felt a bit dramatic spending nearly £300 on the Owlet Sock.

So thought this could be a good option.

Super Easy To Install

You literally plug it in and put the two circle pads under the mattress.

Yes under the mattress, not just the sheet.

You then have the white sensor on the outside of the cot so can easily turn it off when you need to.

It has one switch on the sensor – on and off – super easy to work!

Very Easy To Use

Once the pads are under the mattress and plugged in, you simply place your baby in the cot as normal and turn the white sensor on.

It will then flash green to tell you it’s picking up their breathing.

You know it’s working as soon as you lift your baby out as the alarm will go off!

(You’ll learn very quickly to press it off before you pick your baby up, and not after!)

So why did I switch to the Owlet Sock?

It Has A Very Big Flaw…

I noticed one night that the white sensor was still flashing green but I had my baby out of the cot for feeding.

“I hadn’t switched it off, but it was still flashing green, even though my baby wasn’t in there!”

I’ve heard that alarm enough times after I’ve picked my little one up when I’ve forgotten to switch it off.

So I know the alarm works.

So why wasn’t the alarm sounding now my baby wasn’t in the cot?

If You Have a Fan In Your Room the Monitor Doesn’t Work…

I went on a deep dive in Google, and it turns out if you have a fan on in the room, the monitor picks up this as vibrations.

So if your baby stopped breathing but you had a fan on in the room, the alarm wouldn’t sound.

I thought this was a major flaw.

How accurate can it be if it can be tricked by a fan on the other side of the room?

I had to invest in the Owlet Sock if I wanted genuine piece of mind. 

I Had To Buy the Owlet Sock…

The little blue sock that keeps your baby monitored all night long.

It measures their heart rate and oxygen levels.

Which you can see in the app whenever you need reassurance.

It has a small white pad you plug in next to your bed that has a calm green colour when they’re being monitored.

How Much Does It Beep?

The only other colour you’re likely to see is yellow if the sock isn’t on properly or your baby kicks it off.

 
Which honestly doesn’t happen a lot. 

 
It happens more at the start when you’re getting the hang of putting it on properly.
 
(If it keeps flashing yellow it’s probably not on tight enough!) 

Setting Up The Owlet

So the Owlet has a bit more setting up to do than the BabySense Monitor.
 

It has an app which you need to connect to wifi.
 

But it’s easy enough!
 

I would say 10/15minutes and it’s done.
 
 

Everything You Possibly Need To See Is On This App!

This is what the app looks like when you’re all set up.

 
The app tells you if he’s awake, in light sleep or deep sleep.

 
I also have the Owlet Baby Monitor so it’s all on the same screen. 

(If you just have the sock but not the monitor, you’ll see everything above except the live stream of them!)

 
As soon as I think I hear a noise, I click the app and I can see him, see he’s breathing and see the temperature of the room.

 
Perfect!

The Best Part About The Owlet?

It Tracks Your Baby’s Sleep!

In the morning you can see exactly when your baby woke up.
 

The nights can become blurry, so this is perfect for logging any habits if you need to adjust their naps in the day.
 
 
This is by far my favourite part of the app!

Travelling With The Sock

One of the other best things about the sock is you can easily travel with it as you don’t need wifi for it to work.

 
The sock uses Bluetooth to connect to the white pad.
 

The WiFi is just for the app to work.

 
Without WiFi, the pad will still light up green and beep red if anything happens.

 
You just simply plug in the pad, pop the sock on and you’re done!

Would I Recommend Spending £300 On The Owlet Sock?

100% yes I would.

If mine broke tomorrow, I’d be ordering another one asap.

The time I have saved from not having to go and check my baby’s breathing every 5 minutes definitely makes up for the price.

I know if anything happened in the night the alarm would go off.

And that piece of mind is worth its weight in gold.
